Flex & Pointe was founded on the belief that everyone can dance.

Everyone has an innate sense of dance - we all sway to music or bop our head to a beat. At Flex & Pointe, we focus on that natural skill and develop it.

We strive to make students feel included, accepted, and celebrated for their creative abilities in a positive and nurturing atmosphere. Beginners are especially encouraged to participate.

Trying to decide which dance studio is right for your child?

If most dance studios have qualified, friendly teachers, experience teaching children, and a big recital at the end of the year, aren’t they all pretty much the same? Here are some key factors to consider when choosing a dance studio.

Class Size

If the dance class has fewer students in it each child will receive more personalized attention, learn more and have more fun. With younger students, it is easier for a teacher to maintain control over the class and make sure each student understands the concepts and instructions. Smaller class sizes make sure that no fundamental concepts are being missed. A smaller class size also allows teachers to ensure that students are not developing bad habits or improper technique that may result in injury. Our studio limits the size for all of our classes. Preschool dance classes are limited to 8 students per class. All of our other classes accept a maximum of 12 students per class.

Dance Floor

Dance is a very physical activity that requires a lot of jumping which can put stress on bones and joints. Most dance footwear does not provide any cushioning or support so the shock of dance movement can place a lot of pressure on the knees and back of a dancer. The best way to prevent against potential injury is by choosing a studio with a professional “sprung” or “floating” floor. A sprung floor is a floor that is raised slightly higher in order to include a “sub floor” underneath. This sub floor is made of material that absorbs shocks giving the floor a softer feel. Such floors are considered the best available for dance, indoor sports and physical education. Our studio is equipped with a sprung floor to provide added safety and comfort allowing students to enhance their dance performance.

Class Viewing

Parents should have the option to observe their child’s growth and development in a dance class. However, the presence of a parent may cause a child to be less focused on the instruction and more focused on the people in the classroom. A one-way mirror allows parents to view class from outside the classroom. Used with a darkened room on one side and a well-lit room on the other, those in the darkened room can see into the well-lit room but not vice versa because it is reflective on one side and transparent on the other. From inside the classroom the one-way mirror looks like a regular mirror so students do not see observers and, therefore causes no distraction. Our studio has a one-way mirror so parents can view their child’s progress at any time over the duration of the dance year.

Registration Fees

In some instances an additional fee is charged at the time of registration when signing up for extra cirricular activities. Usually this fee is justified as covering the cost of office work. Our studio does not charge an extra fee for registration because adminstrative services such as processing and customer satisfaction are already included in the program cost.
