BALLET is the classical dance form that can be mastered by itself or used as a technical base to other dance forms. Ballet fundamentals improve balance, posture, coordination, rhythm, and musicality. Class focuses on overall body alignment and awareness with emphasis on proper usage of feet and legs. Carriage and usage of upper torso and arms are also stressed. Traditional barre work, center work and combinations are utilized in class.
TAP is a form of dance wherein rhythmic sounds are created by the feet. It is an excellent means of increasing a sense of rhythm and timing as well as coordination of the mind/body. Class includes terminology, barre exercises to warm and strengthen the ankles, floor combinations stressing precision, and various combinations.
JAZZ was established by various techniques from all over the world and allows for a wide freedom of expression. Class provides a progressive system of exercises for physical toning, strengthening, isolations and placement. Included are terminology, center floor warm-up, floor and corner progressions, turns, jumps and routines. Various styles are explored including Lyrical, Theatrical, Latin, and Funk.
FUNK uses basic Jazz techniques with street and hip-hop styles emphasizing body isolations, attitude, coordination, free-style movement, and rhythm.
PRECOMBO & COMBO is specifically designed for ages 4 through 8. In an effort to perk and maintain interest as well as provide a well-rounded dance education, students learn the fundamentals of two different dance styles. It is recommended that 4 year old students complete Creative Movement before taking PreCombo class.
CREATIVE MOVEMENT is a fun, 45-minute class for students ages 3 and 4 where children learn the principles of movement. Basic Ballet, Tap, and Jazz concepts are explored and proper terminology is introduced. Learning tools such as bean bags and hula hoops are utilized to understand basic dance skills including balance, space and rhythm.
*Our DANCE TROUPE represents Flex & Pointe in the community by performing at local festivals and volunteering at different events organized by the studio. Their mission is to entertain spectators, inspire others, and share the joy of movement with the community. New team members are accepted for the 2009 Dance Troupe season (November-October 2009) in early October 2008. Students age 8+ are encouraged to try out. There is no extra fee to be part of the Troupe other than purchasing a ‘uniform’ (jacket & t-shirt). For more information about our Dance Troupe click here.
